Women artists have been marginalized for centuries. Contemporary women artists still face many obstacles and disparities, as well as persistent underrepresentation in museum collections and exhibitions worldwide.

Italian women artists who lived in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were pioneers in the history of painting, sculpture, architecture and design.
Artemisia Gentileschi was the trailblazing pioneer of these pioneers.
Her name is the only one who has reached a vast audience.
But she was hardly alone.
